Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the role

In collaboration with the Head of School, provide strategic leadership across multiple campuses, ensuring cohesive and effective management. Oversee operational activities and priorities, including timetabling and adherence to Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. Manage staff responsibilities through negotiation and support curriculum development, delivery, and assessment to enhance educational outcomes.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $100,000 and $120,000, dependent on skills and experience.

The Assistant Head of School, Nursing, is based in our Faculty of Education, Humanities and Health Science - Te Pūkenga reporting to the Head of School, Nursing and will be responsible for:

  • Annual Plan Development: Co-lead the creation and implementation of the School of Nursing Annual Plan, ensuring performance targets and objectives are met
  • Resource Management: Negotiate with the Executive Dean for necessary resources and manage income, operational, and staffing expenses
  • Programme Delivery: Develop and oversee programme delivery plans, ensuring alignment with aims, philosophy, and policies, and manage evaluations and reports
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including health authorities and professional organizations
  • Leadership and Support: Provide leadership and support for academic staff and students, ensuring effective programme management and compliance with accreditation requirements

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Nursing and Educational Qualifications: Current New Zealand Registered Nurse with a practicing certificate and a relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD preferred)
  • Extensive Experience: Significant nursing practice experience and expertise in curriculum development for undergraduate and post-registration nursing education
  • Leadership and Management: Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in teaching and programme development in health science/nursing education
  • Cultural Competence: Understanding of cultural safety principles, commitment to a culturally safe environment, and appreciation of te reo me ōna tikanga Māori
  • Interpersonal and Networking Skills: Ability to inspire and lead colleagues, plan and achieve objectives, relate to staff and students at all levels, and network with various health and disability-related agencies
