On 12 May 2020, the Ministry of Health's Chief Nursing Officer Margareth Broodkoorn hosted a zoom webinar to celebrate International Nurses Day. Over 170 people participated and listened to a range of wonderful speakers related to 2020 International Year of the Nurse and drew on this year’s theme, ‘Nursing the World to Health’, particularly in the context of COVID-19.
The session started with videos from the Minister of Health Dr David Clark and Elizabeth Iro the Chief Nurse at the World Health Organisation, and an appearance in person from Dr Ashley Bloomfield. Three inspirational Nurse leaders then shared their perspective of the International Nurses Day theme - Nursing the World to Health. Thank you to Felicity Gapes (Nightingale Award recipient 2019), Moe Milne (Te Akenehi Hei Award recipient 2018) and Dr Frances Hughes who shared how nurses in the aged care sector have responded to COVID-19.
