Jo-Ann Downie NP Cardiology
Jo-Ann Downie NP Cardiology
I have been practicing as a Nurse Practitioner since December 2013 in the Cardiology Dept at Taranaki District Health Board. Prior to this I had a number of roles within cardiac care from Cardiothoracic ICU, CCU and HDU, Cardiac Education and Cardiac Cath Lab over the years. My current role is diverse as I do cardiac diagnostic testing (ETT, Stress Perfusion scans, Chemical Perfusion scans), as well as see patients in clinic (referred from GP, DHB) follow up coronary angiogram patients and those discharged from Waikato following PCI or surgery, or ablation. I also run the nurse led elective cardioversion service therefore see a large number of atrial; fibrillation patients.
ABSTRACT:
Title: An update on the new Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines
In 2018 the National Heart Foundation of Australia and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand released new atrial fibrillation (AF) guidelines as AF has been identified as a burdensome condition of increasing prevalence where large numbers of patients are not being anticoagulated despite clear benefit in stroke prevention. These guidelines were developed locally, with evidence from existing guidelines (ESC, AHA/ACC and HRS) but include recent evidence an of which are specific to Australia and New Zealand to help clinicians management of AF. This is an update of these including a case study from my practice.
